Welcome to the Special Education Department, Ligon GT Magnet Middle School website! This site was created with you in mind. We are dedicated to serving you and ensuring that important information on student disability/special education services are provided. For the 2015-16 school year, we will navigate the different services provided to students with disabilities here at Ligon Magnet GT Middle School. You'll meet our friendly staff and get connected with the many resources available for your further understanding of how students are served at our school and how to access important services. We are committed to upholding our state's and district's commitment to the Child Find Project.
This site is the home for accessing information related to serving students with disabilities at Ligon. Questions such as: How do I access services for my child? What is a 504 Plan? What is an Individualized Education Plan? can be answered through the literature provided on this site. Teachers can also use this site to learn about procedures and access important documents for serving students in their classrooms.
If you have concerns about your child keeping up with his/her academic demands and you suspect that your child may have a disability that is impacting her/his learning, find out how your school can help. Through our referral services, a specially created team comprising of one of your child's teachers, a special education teacher, an individual who can interpret data, and a Local Education Agent (LEA), we can review your child's data and through a discussion, decide whether further testing/evaluation is necessary to determine eligibility for special education services or other appropriate services provided through the mandates of IDEA.
Select the most convenient process for you to request referral for evaluation for your child. Teachers can also submit referrals for evaluation of students within their classrooms. If your child has a 504 plan, the 504 team can also request special education team involvement by submitting a request on you and your child's behalf. Learn more about the process through the Parent's Handbook.
